the olympic torch goes up to the olympic park tonight after 8000 carried it in the uk
looking back to dover a week ago what are the memories
for me
1) the timing of the event by olympic team impeccable
2) the roundabout at townwall street to bottom of folkestone road the runner ==== was the quickest in kent
3) kieron from the harbour school --- a great story
4) the man who ran in 1948 --- over the moon to be given a chance this year and fitter than cliff richard !!
5) the turnout on the seafront with excellent coverage from the bbc south east extra programme
6 ) the rain
finally ) over to dover district council for the fireworks and they start over 20 minutes late !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a negative post .The rain may have been the over riding factor why the fieworks were delayed ??

how do you consider it to be the councils fault? did they make it rain? was it DDC setting them off?

So true Ross. Councils do deserve a lot of stick but at least keep that stick for what they actually are responsible for. If DDC obtained the fireworks and then arranged them all and set them off themselves then yes, blame them. They did not and would not, as they do not have the expertise and clearly the firework experts themselves had difficulty in that weather. I don't envy them that job.

I can see where Ron is coming from as the fireworks display did not run smoothly and the rain was previously forecast (maybe the rain precautions were inadequate) but a great event all the same.

when we start to consider the sheer scale of the torch relay and the organisation required the amount of problems has been really low.

It is most unfair to blame DDC for the delay in the fireworks starting; as far as I am aware, everything went incredibly well, apart from Ticket-Master's part with the tickets and DDC didn't appoint them, LOCOG did.
