Laika the space dog
- 2 September 2011 01:52124211Was walking along the cardeck a few weeks ago and suddenly noticed this large white dog sitting quietly in the passenger seat of a van. Not an uncommon occurrence as we often carry dogs in vehicles these days. I had my mobile in my pocket so paused to take a couple of photos as it was such a dignified animal. Have just been sifting through recent photos and noticed that the van it is sitting in is adorned with the motif LAIKA. This was the name of the poor little dog the Russians put into space in 1957 whereupon it became the first living creature in orbit and sadly died within a few hours from overheating and panic.
