Of course Gwyn is a legend David.. a local legend. 3 Labour victories in a row... hard to do.

But yes back to the CV. Very impressive CV there and I bet the other ones were for the other two nominees as well. Gwyn I suppose represents the past in how these things used to be achieved...as I understand it Gwyn worked on the ferries locally and worked his way up from local politics to candidate level and of course eventually MP. But it was a different era then.

That kind of thing is not really happening any more. It is now all about the 'bright young things' slotting in as soon as possible to frontbench level. I speak for example of the wave of new bright faces on the Labour frontbenches..all highly educated, all very experienced already, and all very media savvy from the word go....Chukka Umunna, Chris Leslie, Rachel Reeves to name but a trio who are all so new, yet already familiar on our TV screeens.

No local councillors will upgrade to MP level in future, I cant see it, by the time you go through the local political machinations your career bolt has already been shot. It takes too long. Youth is the thing. Education is the thing. Its not just me getting older is it... but MPs and cabinet members are Im sure getting ever younger..
