What is the point in taking out private medical insurance when you cannot opt out of the NHS you are in effect paying twice.
In any event who would provide your emergency treatment, it certainly wouldn't be your local private hospital, neither would they provide an emergency ambulance or blood.
Your private medical insurance would almost certainly exclude an existing condition and would not cover you for certain disabilities so all in all what is the point. It is merely diverting services to the private sector which are essential to the public sector. After all you're getting the same surgeon, doctor and anaethetist who are mainly engaged in the NHS.
