CLAIR HAWKINS, LABOUR CANDIDATE FOR DOVER AND DEAL, CALLS FOR BIG IDEAS...

Today Clair Hawkins, Labour's local candidate for MP, told Labour Party Conference in Manchester that Britain needs big ideas to deal with the youth unemployment crisis.

Speaking in front of hundreds of delegates, Shadow Ministers and journalists, Clair spelled out the long term danger posed by youth unemployment. Dover and Deal has one of the highest unemployment rates in Kent for 18-24 year olds, with many out of work for over six months.

Conference is the Party's annual political gathering. With over 11,000 guests and 500 fringe debates it is one of the largest political events in Europe.

Clair Hawkins, Labour's Parliamentary candidate, said:
"In my day job with Skills Factory, a Coalfield Regeneration Trust funded scheme to support people into employment and training, I meet many young people desperate to work. They are being let down. With the economy back in recession there simply aren't enough jobs.

"In Deal I am supporting churches and community groups in starting a Foodbank. But I find the need for this a disgrace. If people need food hand outs it means the Government is failing.

"Britain needs a plan for growth and an action plan for getting young people into work. Britain needs ideas.

"We need big ideas to Rebuild Britain, not break up and sell-off Britain. Big ideas to take on the vested interests of the banks and the energy companies. Big ideas to provide more apprenticeships and affordable housing."
