The Plumtre inheritance was the reason, when leader of DDC, to instigate our membership of the CCC

(Coalfields Community Consortium ) As with all decisions to change things there was resistance but with the

support of Sandy Bruce Lockhart leader of KCC,Roger Madge Director of DDC and the enthusiastic support of

Gordon Cowan we pushed it through.

All CCC delegates from the north and midlands came down to Whitfield for our inauguration meeting.During

their stay we coached them round the East Kent Coalfields, when they saw Snowdown they were

flabbergasted/disgusted with what they saw and heard of the Plumtre situation.

During the debate in chambers the Chairman and delegates of CCC discussed the current problem of the

Miners Pension Fund being tampered with which generated much anger. The next item on the agenda was

Snowdown where they, still in angry mood critised me as leader for tolerating the Snowdown situation.I

informed them that I had only been aware of it a month before contacting them for membership.

The matter was put on the CCC agenda. Many meetings followed including SEEDA to try to solve the problem.

Alas even to this day nothing has changed and the scar of Snowdon remains in the Kent Countryside,as Paul

Aka photographs show, and the rent is still being paid.

We,DDC are still members of CCC ( under a different name now ) and Cllr Steve Manion is our delegate.
