11:0939202Preparations have started already for this year's Kent Miners Festival and we are appealing for help from the community to make it a show stopping event.
YOUTH GROUPS and Organisations are urged to plan and take part in fun events at this summer's Kent Miners Festival at Fowlmead Country Park.
A day dedicated to youngsters has been planned as part of the FREE two-day Community Event which will take place on August bank holiday Sunday and Monday and youngsters are urged to get involved. The committee would like to invite a youth or representative of the youth's to join them in helping with organising the event?
Like last year, the festival will be free to enter.
We are so grateful to everyone who got involved in last year's Miners Festival especially the organisations who awarded grants and donated money, time and prizes.
This year we are looking for sponsor's to get behind us and help us to put on an Event that is fit for our Communities. Funding for an extra Marquee is being sort to enable local charities and local health and welfare groups such as Case Kent and Help 4 Heroes to showcase and promote themselves at the Festival.
We also need good quality donations for our draw, such as restaurant vouchers, ferry crossings, short breaks.
The Sunday (August 29) will be devoted to youth groups, with sporting events planned and local acts performing live music, followed by a heritage day and miners reunion on Bank Holiday Monday.
The festival is being put on in association with the East Kent Road Car Heritage Trust who will run Park & Ride on the Sunday and lay on vintage buses to ferry people to the festival from the mining villages, Deal and Sandwich on bank Holiday Monday.
Among the activities will be sporting events, brass bands, boxing, exhibitions, fairground rides, and the Miner's Reunion. A beer tent will serve refreshments and food and soft drink will also be on sale. This is a Community Event that will give Help & Support, Fun & Education to all ages of our Communities.
We cannot do it without your help, so please support this Festival?

Looked like the plinth for the miner was going up today

Been nice knowing you :)
Good luck with the event GaryC. I won't be attending as I have an intense dislike of brass bands, but I hope the weather is good and everyone has an enjoyable time.

Ok Brian, I'll load up my AK47 in readiness!
GaryC, I will be there with the family - we haven't anything to give or sponsor, but we will, as always, support the miners. We were there for them in Nottingham during the Thatcher abomination and we will be there still.

mate!

i thought the nottingham miners were the thatcher abomination bern.
Scargill abomination more like! Thatcher didn't ask the miners to strike, but she was ready in case they did.

Sid she all but called the strike, she prepared the Police, stock piled coal and then closed a perfectly good Pit on Scargills doorstep, she knew the result of that.

Sounds like a BA cabin crew dispute.

Gary, I 'm sure that you will fill Fowlmead and have a great day. Brings back memories of the Betteshanger CW Sports field days.
Well done.
