According to the television news, the Chief Executive of Kent County Council has been awarded an8% pay increase, taking his annual salary to £255,OOO.
In an article today, nationally, council workers have been offered an increase of 0.5%.
In these days when people are actually taking wage cuts to keep their jobs, is it right that the Chief Executive receives an award greater than the annual rate of inflation and has also cost the taxpayer 50 million pounds for investing in Icelandic Banks? He has in effect been rewarded for failure whereas in any other job he would have been sacked.
