we have 6 councillors spread over dover and deal and what do we know that goes on in maidstone?
very very little.
we get bits and pieces from nigel and gordon now and again and that is it.
it is all over the media that there is a putsch to get rid of the leader paul carter, why is everything such a big secret?
where do our elected representatives stand on all this?

HOWARD;
I can;t answer you as to what the moves this time are about to get rid of carter, of course sadly the kent county council is totally dominated with conservatives, like years ago, to have so many in a group who ever is the leader will find it hard to keep his back benchers happy.
whilst i was on the county council there were conservatives on the council who were telling me they didnt support mr carter, but were not willing to go that one step further to make a serious challenge to his leadership.
these types of challenges will always happen in groups that are to big.
on the issue of the 6 county members you mention 2
but the other 4 are all conservatives some who posted on here on a regular basis and made accusations that other parties were being gagged
yet as soon as elected they are all told they can no longer post on here
and we here from them no more.
of course with the recent dover kcc seat i think this will give a lot of encouragement to- the other party and see the seats returning to the labour party well 4 of the 6 at least

Another take on the Paul Carter situation.
In my county days Paul was Cabinet member for Education being on the Education committee I had several encounters with him
Since being County Leader he has had several serious disagreements with Gove and his policies. ( who hasn`t )
This would have caused Flashman displeasure.The rumblings would filter down to the Maidstone disciples.
Due to the Conservatives stronghold at County the Back Benchers get restless and Flashman`s displeasure would fester in the ranks until a few of them fancy their chances to challenge Carter.
Rumour has it these are Ferrin and Chard.Most of us had nick names.cannot mention Ferrins or mine but Chard was `nice but dim`
Carter is powerful.Very successful Developer.Developers are like stock brokers.Tories like Developers (as Whitfield is about to find out )
If Flashman remains in place matters will become difficult for Carter but the two challengers `do not cut the rug `so he could be OK unless he is getting disencharted and wants out of the kitchen.

getting ever more interesting now, a chap called nick chard has thrown his hat in the ring because he thinks that paul carter is doing things all wrong, nothing to do with paul sacking him from the cabinet back in january.
another cove namely keith ferrin has made it clear that he should be head honcho.
the whispers in the bazaar indicate that a dark horse fairly newly elected and from dover could end up on the throne at maidstone.
no name as yet though.

HOWARD;
Firstly if its the guy from dover hes in the labour party so couldn't challenge lol
keith ferrin is a stron g character but i dSMILEY:smil i dont think he has the following for a leadership challenge.
now nick chard, is one of those smooth talking geezers not frightened to speak out, thus his removal from cabinet, trouble is removing him from cabinet gives him more time and he now has time to mount the leadership challenge against carter.
carter has never been the most popular choice, very surprized he lasted as long as he has.
sandy bruce lockhart was one of the best tory leaders the county had

you're right about sir sandy keith, the question is whether nigel once esconced on the throne will surpass sandy in his achievements.
i can see it now, her majesty tapping his shoulder with her sword.

Paul Carter certainly broke ranks with central Tory policy over the education situation. As Reg says there he had a falling out with Michael Gove and the oddball policies Gove is pursuing. He didnt feel some of these policies were appropriate for Kent and who could blame him, I thought a great well done should go to Paul Carter for sticking up for his own county. Not easy to do in the Conservative Party...ie not comply with the central dogma.
Clearly though he will have marked his own card and his career will now shuffle sideways, central office do not like anyone 'off message'.
Here is a pic of the tall man himself.. a very pleasant man too.

PAULB;
I think paul carter is one of the most unpopular conservative leaders they have had, and with a conservative dominated county council he will find it hard to survive.
funny though didnt hsave to much contact with paul carter but i did phone him once over a problem at astor school when i was a governor have to say he was very helpful, and helped to solve the problem.
but in the bigger scale of things he appears to be struggling to hold onto the position. the knives appear to be out for him.

#10 Agree but Paul Carter carefully works out his moves and actions.He would move smoothly into being an MP with or without Flashman being there and would soon be one of the movers and Shakers....................in opposition ofcourse.
