On the day that Britains's largest coal mine - Daw Mill near Coventry - is threatened with closure, I would cautiously welcome this news.
Much as I hate to see the despoilation of the countryside, it would be great news for the local economy if this came to pass.
It is presumably considering a deep mine, as Kent coal seams are way too deep for open cast. There is masses of coal still under East Kent.
Edit: I seem to remember reading on this forum that a drift mine into the cliffs at St Margaret's would be the best way to get at Kent's remaining reserves. That would be interesting...
