looks inevitable now, just a question of where the hits come.
the plans are intened to save 15% on the leccy bill but at the rate prices are rising by the time they implement there could be no savings on the present costs.

not if they shut down the lights near me, you cannot walk on the pavements after dark so the middle of the road is the only way.
without street lighting pedestrians would be in serious danger.

If they turn the lights out at midnight, then there is an accute danger that people rolling home late will walk into a lamp post.
Foxes will be roaming the streets at night, and cars will take the wrong turning at junctions and end up in a dark alley.

Try riding a bike in Dover without streetlights, even the lights on your bike dont give you enough light to see properly.

We managed alright in the war with no lights at all.

I wonder if the elderly felt safe going out in the blackness during the war with all the bomb craters
One was not so likely to be mugged or stabbed during the war as we are now, I do not think you can really compare then and now.

things were different then jan, the luftwaffe made a point about lighting up our town centres, if only k.c.c. were that responsible.

There are a lot of roads that don't really need lighting out of "hours" in Deal we can see lights over Whitfield along the A2 and places people don't walk. Cars have headlights....
Been nice knowing you :)

I was at a School Governors meeting yesterday and one of the Community Governors an ex Policeman asked the Governors,Teachers, and School Council, who would like to see the lights turned out at night, these children were aged between 6 and 11.The only hand that went up was one of the teachers! There were about 25 people Adults and Children in the ward.

Don't we need to know exactly which lights in which streets will be turned off before getting uptight about it - as Paul has said, some lights are unnecessary.

indeed we do, but there is not a list available so people are concerned.
normally in cases like this we only find out too late so people want to see which streets will be affected.
