  Yet another lorry has struck this bridge apparently took the top of the lorries roof right off .Our bus managed to get through .This was about 1.00pm

  Yes Sue, and guess who`s been sitting an hour and a half on a train at Faversham and Canterbury East! 4 hours from Victoria to Dover Priory. Send the lorry driver the bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  I quite agree Keith. You should try driving one for a living!
  
  Being a fully paid up member of the lorry driving fraternity I fail to see how any right-minded trucker would even attempt to take a truck under bridge with a clearly signposted height restriction.
  
  I doubt the lorry driver will get the bill Colin, though his company's insurance premiums will be taking a hike. I would hope that at least the driver would get a few points on his licence and a fine for driving without due care.
  
  Sue: Might it not be possible to get some warning devices sited in the area? I have in mind the simple, yet effective, hanging bar type that would belt a truck before the truck belted the bridge. That bridge certainly has more than its fair share of knocks and the solution is relatively inexpensive.

  Phil I have forwarded your comments on to DDC and Nigel .Currently KHS are looking at providing better signage along that road .I was at an Alkham parish council meeting where this was discussed.The PC wanted a flashing sign at cab level to give forward warning .KHS were not so keen on that .
  
  We will carry on pressing for improvements .Each time a lorry hits the bridge it causes a lot of problems .

  Sue: Hi-tech options will do the job but cost more and be more likely to suffer vandalism and simple failure than the low-tech solution I suggested. It's no wonder DDC don't want to go down that route in the current financial climate. A couple of chains and a highly visible steel bar wouldn't cost any near as much, would be almost vandal-proof and unlikely to fail.
  
  I would suggest a similar solution for the rail bridge at Coombe Valley too.

  Well said Phil, and of course nothing personal against all lorry drivers, and there being so many lorries on the road, I`m surprised there aren`t more bridge bashes than there are. (Not sure on any figures). We must remember though that all these railway bridges are fine examples of Victorian architecture, built for horses and carts to pass under.
