was chatting to someone earlier who had spent most of the day there, so i asked about the great wildlife there.
apparently there isn't much anymore, just a handful of swans and ducks - what has happened to them all?

Did ask the same question a while ago.A few years back there was over 20 swans and about 8 geese, the swan santuary said that they had probably flown away but when i explained that many were laim and unable to run to take off and fly, they couldnt explain as to where they had gone.Nobody knows what became of the geese apart from one which had a damaged wing and was taken to the santuary. Can only guess that some may have been attacked by dogs or foxes.

Don't know the answer to this. But the thread reminded me of the public meeting that was held a few years ago to discuss the plans to move some of the swans to another location, because it was felt there were too many at Kearsney. Quite a heated meeting. A lady from a swan sanctuary in Surrey came down to argue that the swans shouldn't be disturbed. She actually said:
"They are mute swans. They can't speak for themselves, so we must speak for them"!
Obviously the ducks and moorhens did attend and put their case eloquently!
Still makes me laugh!

I hate to say this but could they have ended up on a plate as Brian said.
Going slightly of subject I have not noticed as many ducks as usual on the River Dour near Morrisons, at first I put it down to the cleaning but that was a while ago.

I once asked for a whole duck in Morrisons but was told they were out of season.

I took visitors to the three Kearsney Parks - Abbey, Russell Gardens and Bushy Ruff - last Friday. They were very impressed with the biodiversity, heritage and maintenance of the parks. There was plenty of wildfowl, including swans and moorhen with their young on the lakes. The three parks are a great asset for Dover and are popular with all generations.

Female dog walkers approached by "suspicious" man in Dover park
"Police are investigating reports of a suspicious man in Dover after several female dog walkers were approached at Kearsney Abbey.
Several women complained about a man loitering and staring at them and then approaching them and making inappropriate suggestions..."
