The post you are reporting:
Living is breathing...
-we breathe in...
-we breathe out...
To 'breathe out'
For the human being, to affect the world in which we live is a powerful driving force. It drives the telling of tales of Kings and battles, and reassures the teller that there is an audience for all such tales. It drives conquest and creation, exploration and exhortation.
On the young, it drives them to splash in puddles, to whoop for echoes in churches, to daub upon walls and to smash the windows of abandoned buildings. "I did that!" "That was me!" "I was there when!"
To 'breathe in'
The enjoyment of the fruits of our labours, and what there is of wild-nature as much as what we, the human race as rulers, have done to 'improve' the world we have mastery of. The quiet contemplations, and the sharing of a sense of fulfilment with companions:friends or offspring.
Perhaps it is not quite:Why did we say nothing? But: Why do we feel that we should have said something at the same feeling that we should not?
You were breathing in, and they were breathing out.
All such matters are extremely difficult to effect to good purpose when taken by the each. Better to arrange within each community that the basic human drivers are catered for in relative safety.
This is why we have Parks and Pubs, boats and bathing, and also why we get the sense that it is wrong to afford strip-clubs and turf-accountants the same status.
