I was quite surprised that some of the evening Stagecoach services were subsidised by KCC, I away assumed that it was the 68, 591 and 541 during the day time Monday to Saturday. Glad that the 591 has not been hit it only runs 3 times a day from Deal through the villages to Dover Western Heights.
The most important pick up and drop off point is Guston where most of the passengers are young mums with buggies and elderly Nepalese people who would be cut off from the world without the service.
Not surprised that the other Regent services have been heavily cut back as I know many of the drivers and they loved it on the 68 with all the passengers they could chat with but the outlying ones were absolutely dead, one route had a break of 40 minutes in a village with no shop or toilet facilities before it turned around. One driver done it for a while then left and went to Stagecoach because of it.

Looks like we might as well start getting the bus shelters in the museum as well as the tram shelter?

Howard, you're a bit off track. The 591 (it has been 91 for several years) was the Alkham route. It's the 93 (was 593 until a couple of years ago) that goes to Guston etc. You are really referring to Burgoyne Heights which is about a mile from Guston village (though it does have the relocated Guston School to add to the confusion).

I stand corrected Lew, having used the Deal /Western heights service for some time I should have remembered the service number. Used to be run by a company(now out of business) that used filthy dirty sometimes dented buses on the route, then Stagecoach took over the route until Regent came along.

Howard, it was all to do with money - Eastonways offered KCC the best price. When their business went under, Stagecoach had to come to the rescue, then Regent took over on the next tendering. That one won't come up again for a couple of years.
