A couple of people have asked me to post another model build thread to see how it is done. I am not going to do a full blow by blow record for this as it would be an awful lot of work. This aircraft is a much more complex kit than the simple 48 scale Spitfire for which I last did such a thread well over a year ago.

So what I thought, for those who are interested, is just to post some photos at key stages or perhaps weekly to show progress with a few notes.

So far I have just been working on the interior parts to build up a number of sub-assemblies ready for painting. It is the requirements for painting that determine the number of sub-assemblies I do. So far I have been working on the interior and all the main interior sub-assemblies needed to paint so I can join the fuselage sides are now ready for the airbrush. This aircraft is big and the inside is complicated hence the amount of work done so far.

First photo is of the two fuselage halves. The pen is to show the size of this massive model. I have joined the bottom to one side, some bulkhead doors at the rear and made up one of the sidewalls while also masking a window.

Next up - here is a view of the radio wall and other parts including the seats.

I fix all the sub-assemblies to lolly sticks or lengths of sprue ready to paint - here they are plus the tail wheel elements.

The kit, a Revell 32 scale one, is very good, accurate and well engineered, but it does lack some details required on a Battle of Britain JU88 medium bomber, for instance the bomb racks and bombs, somewhat essential I am sure you would agree. So I sourced aftermarket parts that are made out of resin and brass. I have never used resin before so thought I would sort these out good and early. I added some extra detail and bomb fixing points using thin brass rod as well. Here are these:

Tonight I plan to airbrush on a coat of grey primer on all parts. Tomorrow when dry I will check for blemishes and, if any, will correct them. After that I will paint the base colour then get to work adding colour detail, washes and highlights. I will post next these interior parts when they are done and ready to have the fuselage closed up.
