19:4674889I know of a nice young lady in her early 20s who has been made redundant from LD Lines, a freind of my daughter`s who has been seeking employment in the town for some weeks now but without much luck. I know she is hard working, but I`m informed the work just isn`t there. I don`t think she has any qualification`s. I`ve just had this spur of the moment thought that this might be an interesting topic, and maybe other`s on here know of individual`s who maybe in the same boat. (Pun not intended).

19:5174897Has she talked to the agencies down in the town centre? I believe one of the forum members is a manager at one of them

20:0674908Thanks Howard, I`ve seen her advertisement on here many times. I`ll see if she`s looked in there. I`ll mention your name, should carry a bit of weight I`d have thought.

09:2375087It is very likely that the young lady in question has already registered with CMS as we have had a few registrations from LD Lines employees.
With regard to the current situation, it is very quiet at the moment. We do have vacancies, but most employers are looking for highly specialised staff and the candidates are having to be located further afield.
We are however in regular contact with local employers and have been forwarding CV's with personal recommendations for those that do come in to register with us.
We have been extremely busy with Temporary Staff over the last few months with up to 300 workers a week being employed locally (at our peak), this work is currently on-going at present albeit at a slightly lower level and we are hopeful that this will continue through to a least November/December. Being seasonal, traditionally this work starts in May/June through to November/December.
In the meantime, I would suggest that anyone looking for work in the current climate should register with as many agencies as possible, register with on-line job sites to receive daily updates on available jobs. Keep an eye on the local press and act on information asap, new Shops/new Business i.e. Dover Marina Hotel.
A good CV sent to the right people is sometimes all it takes, anyone requiring assistance with this can call in to register and we will advise where possible.
I wish the young lady well and hope that something comes up for her soon.
