When I left the store tonight I noticed that they were advertising the following jobs on their window:
Assistant Store Manager ca. £25,000 per annum
Store Assistant £8.20 per hour
Caretaker (didn't notice salary)
They have been advertising the first two jobs for several months.
These seem like good salaries for Dover.
Given current unemployment levels is there no one in Dover who wants any of these jobs or who is capable of doing them?

What makes you think this Keith?
Most people who work in supermarkets aren't self employed.
Seems rather unlikely as Aldi are offering paid holidays and a non contributory pension after 4 years.

Under HMRC rules such jobs would not qualify to be self-employed so you cannot be correct Keith. There are clear criteria laid down for this, more than one source of income, own control, over where and when to work etc. etc. I cannot see any circumstances in which such jobs as these can be self-employed.
Blimey - what a scam if they could be, they would hardly have to pay tax at these rates!!!

This seems to be a myth that they're self employed. A quick Google search shows a lot of people think this for some reason.

If anyone who is looking for a job is interested I would suggest you go into the Dover store and ask about the vacancies.
The website I indicated
www.aldirecruitment.co.uk gives more information on the general positions as Tom indicates.

...er I know a couple of new employees and they are not self-employed. For several years the Dover store pootled along with the same five or six staff.
However, in the past few months several new faces have arrived boosting the numbers although two have moved to other stores.
I was told this week that turnover has increased by 54%.
Most of their products are great. Their baked beans however are truly awful!

I noticed as I left Aldi tonight that they are having a Recruitment Event at the Dover store on September 2nd 2012, 2.00 - 6.00 pm.
Anyone interested should take their CV with them.

We love shopping at Aldi except for the checkout queues. Here in Farnham we have to put up with Waitrose.
