The problem seems to be getting worse in town with people crossing Priory street without looking and the same from the top of Worthington Street across to the taxi ranks. Not just youngsters on school holiday but many adults who do likewise whilst texting or speaking on their phone.
The crossing next to the town hall is long renowned for people chancing their arm but the practice is getting more widespread.
It would help if the lights at the Town Hall were re-sequenced so that pedestrians can cross before the lights go green for traffic coming out of Ladywell can proceed.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Walkers at Ladywell/London road crossing at the Town hall get very little time to cross before they change. I use a crutch and walk quite slowly, it is a nightmare.
