    Interestingly, although this image was in the 1916 newspaper it is of at least 1899 vintage as the company went bankrupt then. As a family with 7 children they probably couldn't afford professional photos like this so had to use a very old one (do I have the original that the paper used??)

    Strangely though I have yet to find any service records for HMS Pembroke which leads me to the obituary in 1943 where is is recorded as having been Station Master for Dover Harbour and Priory Stations, but also of Margate station in the "last war".

    Wonder if he got to Chatham and was too old to sign up for service and then went to the railway ??
