A very very very very long shot this but I am trying to trace an image I have had for years and suddenly I come across the same image in the 1916 Dover Express !! The guy - William Jarvis born in Dover in 1867 had a wife and seven childen when he went off to serve King and Country. As he had quite a big family and lived in Folkestone Road until he died in 1943 I'd imagine that there could be some distant relatives still in town
Does the name ring any bells to anyone ?
Been nice knowing you :)

Have e-mailed you Paul with some details of the family which might be this one, you also mentioned a George, RN.
Have more Jarvis/Jarvest refs if you need others.

Interestingly, although this image was in the 1916 newspaper it is of at least 1899 vintage as the company went bankrupt then. As a family with 7 children they probably couldn't afford professional photos like this so had to use a very old one (do I have the original that the paper used??)
Strangely though I have yet to find any service records for HMS Pembroke which leads me to the obituary in 1943 where is is recorded as having been Station Master for Dover Harbour and Priory Stations, but also of Margate station in the "last war".
Wonder if he got to Chatham and was too old to sign up for service and then went to the railway ??
