GaryC - of course, insurance against unemployment for instance, along with income protection for ill health and life assurance are all essential and offer better protection than State benefits. Incidentally, I am a primarily investment adviser not an insurance salesman in case you don't know.
But you ignore the real point I am making.
This is not about less job security but more job security and more income.
True job security will only come from a strong economy and plenty of jobs to go around with wage competition driving up incomes. That is what a healthy economy is all about.
Old fashioned job protection merely creates a closed shop of I am all right Jack. Keeping things comfy (at least in theory) for those already in work. But it is all delusionary.
Open your mind Gary, get away from the old 60's, 70's and even 80's ideas that have been so damaging to the economy, jobs and incomes. Difficult times mean we must try something different and get away from those dated ideas that so fail people.
