I say you johnny foreigner...you cant do that..no three point turns on the queens highway causing mega sized tailbacks. Then you go and get stuck! We tolerate you nasty foreigners coming here in often very delapidated trucks and this is how you reward us. I was expecting a pizza delivery coming down Jubilee Way and now my anchovies will be soggy and my crust all limp. I call for a public flogging in Market Square and a full refund on my pizza! I dont understand these blasted foreigners at all and what's even worse they show no interest whatsoever in the Test Match score! Gadzooks!"
The above diatribe has just come in from Colonel Sanders who is a tad irritated as you can see. Im not sure if the truck jacknifed or something while coming down Jubilee Way and it lost the tail end...or as the Colonel said he may have been attempting a turn. The truck was Hungarian and he made a right ghoulash of it either way.

There's just no justice. He shouldnt be expected to eat a soggy crust because a Hungarian jacknifes! From what I can see in the picture it looks like the driver has misjudged the overswing of the front of the trailer and jammed it into the railings.

Not what you want on a friday night, in no time the tailback was enormous. Im not sure but they appeared to eventually close Jubilee Way coming downhill. It was dark so no picture. But the amount of trucks with flashing lights that turned up later trying to move the offending beast was amazing. All that for one miscreant.

Part of the problem is that the exit to the docks has been recently rerouted and is hopelessly confusing. If unfamiliar with the route to take, it would be very easy to turn up Jubilee Way in error.
- 28 November 2009 23:4434050I saw the carnage left by these trucks when I went into the docks late last night. Certainly one of them completely misjudged what he was trying to do and appears to not only have hung himself up on the central barrier but also got the cab wedged on the far side. I'm afraid I have no sympathy for the idiots that get caught out
I knew that new dock exit would cause problems but I'm not entirely sure where the problem lies. I know the docks very well as a twice-daily freight visitor and, though I may wear wool, I am not a sheep to blindly follow the blind idiot in front; and I've seen a few caught out like that.
When you have two or more ships discharging at the same time the exit lanes can get quite crowded, which makes it difficult to change lanes if you're tailgating the truck in front and you've got into the wrong lane to start with.
Inside the docks, for those that are unfamiliar with the new layout, there is a lane designated for the A20/M20 to the left and the A2/M2 to the right which diverge around the customs shed. If you want to take the A20/M20 route then either lane will suffice as the righthand lane does have a feeder after the customs shed to take you back onto the A20/M20 route. If you've taken the A20/M20 route on the left by mistake you cannot get back to the A2/M2 side after the customs shed without exiting the dock completely and turning around at the York Street roundabout.
I would guess that the majority of freight traffic exiting the dock will be taking the A20/M20 route so the right-hand lane might appear underused and attract those that are always in a hurry. If they do not see the feeder lane after the customs sheds then they are obliged to take the A2 up Jubilee Way - and this is where the u-turn farse comes about. One suggestion might be to extend the central reservation barrier a lot further up Jubillee Way which might stop that particular problem.Phil West
