Here's a picture from a slim volume that I found in my Christmas stocking last year. The book is "Railways In Wartime" by Tim Bryan. The picture is from WW1 and shows boy scouts guarding a railway bridge. Did they expect the Germans to come by train I wonder?

12 September 2012 13:26191032Since I posted that I've had that tune in my head. As a schoolboy we used to sing "It wasn't the Yanks etc" on the bus on some school trip, or horror of horrors on the way to swimming lessons at the freezing cold Duke Of Yorks.
The bus was Dave Reynold's Bedford OB, always in a filthy state, we used to bang the seats to see how much dust would come flying out. It would make Eastonways look pristine. Mind you, Carole Peters is usually clean!
