There was a news item that pharmaceutical companies had stopped sending medicines to Greece because the Greeks had not paid their bills.
I opened a new packet of my blood pressure tabs Monday and found all the writing Greek - now which tab was Monday's?
Could not help but reflect on the poor Greek geezer who has had to go without his medication because of the way his government screwed up their economy.
There lays a lesson for our deficit deniers. It could be us eventually if we were not to get to grips with our deficit....

How many on this forum are "deficit deniers"?
I will start it off.
I'm not.

homer simpson once said to bart "son , if in doubt deny everything".
Barry lots of medication has been re imported from Greece for many years , there is a really complex supply chain , that can enable meds produced in the UK to be exported to EU countries then re imported to the UK , racking up price increases on the way . Its really common .
Heres a useful link that attempts to explain it ,( Howard get ready for one of your "heads " and a lie down in a darkened room by the end of the first paragraph )

So, it turns out to be the result of the free market, global economy rather than those Greeks who retire aged 17 with gold plated pensions.
Keep taking the tablets, Barry!

Mark - you cannot get away from the facts that there were reports that the Greeks have not paid their bills to medical companies. It is reasonable to assume what I did accordingly and in this case it might actually be the case despite there being another possible explanation.
Medication in Greek packaging has been avaliable in the UK since at least 1998
Suppliers have been pocketing the difference between the agreed UK price and the cost via Greece for years . Its not illegal its the result of an agreement between drug companies and the NHS ( a bit like the old net book agreement ) I think it was started under a conservative government BUT was allowed to continue by Labour administrations , so please no pointless political tit for tats over this one
That won't stop people trying, Sarah.......

True Bern , just trying to do my bit

Now now Howard - there is quite enough for Brown to take the rap over for things he actually was responsible for.
