I have just received a very official looking email from HM Revenue & Customs saying I am due a refund of £356. As I don't pay any tax I am very dubious of this email. There is a box to click on which says "Refund me now". Has anyone else received such an email recently ?

Yes, it's a scam - I've received similar before.

Click on the box and they get your bank details, enough said.

You can forward it direct to hmrc fraud dept at
Phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk they will then be able to shut down or block that ip address, won't stop them but will help track down the sender's.
I get at least 3 or 4 a week.

Also worth noting unless you have registered with HMRC they will not have your email address which is virtually the same for the scams from bogus banks or any other important site

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I forgot to say that this email did arrive in my spam box.
Jan, I have never had any dealings with HMRC by the internet so I should have smelt a rat.
