Is there a Tory Mole at The Palace ? asks Dennis
- 4 December 2008 09:3310292In the midst of all the pomp and circumstance of the State Opening of Parliament, one lone true socialist voice rang out through the hallowed halls. Yes it was the irrepressible Dennis Skinner ramming home the one about the Tory Mole. The brilliant quip was met with howls of laughter.
Dennis is a great oul guy, one of the old school of labourite lefties, an antique from the era when a cloth cap was still a cloth cap by gummm! Dennis doesnt take part in this event, he doesnt shuffle his way through to the Lords to listen quietly to the Queens speech. He shuns the ermin!
And what of the Queens Speech.....
Well it was the shortest one in Labours eleven years. The Queen had no sooner left the Irish State Coach when she was back in it again and whirring back up the Mall to the sound of galloping hooves. She could have phoned it in!! But is this an indication that the Government have run out of ideas? Well no, they are merely concentrating all energies now on the recession.
In a way it was another mini budget, they are coming thick and fast these days, but the highlight was the promise of help for those struggling on mortgages. A new financial plan to help keep people in their homes for up to 2 years. 'Lose your job and you wont lose your house' is the government motto on this.It should be very welcome right across the board particularly with traditional Labour voters.

Just a few I picked up on..........
1/ Extra taxes on businesses just when that is the last thing they need
2/ More red tape on business, the flexible working time and this idiocy about statements of pay, again the opposite to what businesses need
3/ To allow discrimination in favour of ethnic minorities and women - in other words against white men - positively dangerous and simply wrong.
4/ The production of identity when stopped
This interfering, bossy nannying and incompetent Government has long passed its sell by date. - 4 December 2008 10:0110296I didnt notice any extra taxes been levied on business..I must have missed that one.The government are very well aware of the struggle small businesses are going through, and not only small business of course. Massive sized car manufacturers are struggling for example. The reduced vat, and I know we've already gone over all this, but the reduced vat will help greatly with the struggle to sell cars. It could get movement going again on all major goods. I know it was derided somewhat initially but even lowly me has saved a few quid here and there already on my vat bill. So its helping.
But just to amble back to the occasion for the moment...

The extra red tape is even worse than this for businesses. If the Government really understood business then they would have a bonfire of red tape rather than impose more. - Brian Dixon
