I am totally uninspired by the US presidential elections. Obama has been, overall, a big disappointment where his weaknesses in policy have come home to haunt him.
The Republican primary candidates have also not exactly inspired me either, despite my political sympathies being with them - they so need another Reagan. So I feel rather detached from what is arguably the most important election in any nation other than our own.
Some interesting analysis now suggests that Obama is heading for a whopping defeat of landslide proportions. I really do not know if he will 'buck' history and win but this bit of speculation is the first bit of interesting news I have seen from these lacklustre elections. Sad I know!!!

that has taken me aback, up until now i assumed that he would be re-elected quite comfortably.
i shudder to think about one of the republican hopefuls leading the country.

I think you'll find that we have the equivalent amount of nutters and old retainers in the house to worry about America's home grown.
We are on the abyss of a major economic depression but listen to the clowns who are in office and realise that they have not a clue what they might do to protect us from some of the ravages set to come.
As an example of their utter stupidity they oppose a third runway whilst Dubai is set to become the world's biggest air hub in a few years time. Yet the government's answer is to build a useless rail route they call HS2.
Multiply this by 100 and what is going on in America is pure puff.
PhilipP, I am delighted to be able to agree with you. I will record the event in my journal.
But I need to add a very loud and long scream if Romney or one of the other pebbles gets themselves elected...............

Electing a President, or a party-leader as PM is much like buying a first-class stamp. The design you choose will not make a blind bit of difference to when or where your message gets delivered.
In calling for another Ron Reagan, doubly so.
Happily calls for True Democracy are no less in the USA than they are here.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

just to keep it a little even,
the republicans are in a total mess, cant even get there act together as to who should be the candidate.
then of course theres the infighting between the candidates, democrats must be laughing all the way to the ballot box

Keith - we have just been through the primaries which are all about candidate selection. Your comment is like referring to a Labour leadership election and claiming Labour 'are in a total mess, cant even get there act together as to who should be candidate'.... It is a process called democracy but then after what happened after Blair resigned perhaps we can see what you mean!!!!!
Anyway - I suggest you catch up on the latest news as the Republicans do seem now to be uniting around Romney.
I am not sure I am very keen on the choice they have to make in November though - Obama or Romney.....
Or even referring to a General Election in the same terms - it is all about refining choices, isn't it?
And I have to say Romney scares me!!!
