OS updates are about the only thing apple dont charge for!

A phone that just makes and receives calls is great if that is all you want it for. I think the confusion comes from modern smart phones still being called 'Phones' when they are really personal computers.
An iphone 5 has far more memory and processing power than my first desktop computer. Although they can still make telephone calls most people use smartphones more for text, email, web browsing, photography, business applications and loads more. But if you use your smartphone as a Satnav and have just started using ios6 - I would allow lots of extra time for your journey! - On the plus side - it will still show you where 'Our Price' and 'Woolworths' stores used to be!
