22:3187786We've had a few threads on when to spot the ISS but never a dedicated one. I thought it might be easier to start one for any readers interested in looking out for it, or wondering what they spotted one night. (Not another blinking Chinese lantern!)

08:0687791Thanks Phil
They're much early in the evening than the previous notices, is that due to the time of year ?

10:2287805I'll be keeping an eye out for this..saw it before too following Phil's information. Even showed it proudly to legendary daughter... giving the impression I was fully informed of what happens in the planetery system and all systems generally. I dont think she bought it though.

18:4787827Too wet and cloudy to see across the road so no chance of seeing the space station.

12:5593307Given the fact that you lurk in a darkened Transylvannian cellar bar, I'd be shocked if you could spot the ISS anyway. Up periscope!

13:1493308I recall one of the previous occasions on which Phil drew the ISS to our attention. I took Isobel, the French receptionist on my ship, out on deck and showed her the space station going across. Perfect viewing conditions out in the middle of the Dover Strait, away from the light pollution ashore, and she was very impressed.
I am a happily married man but I could see this being a pretty good chat-up line:
"Would you like to come up and see my space station?!"

Two excellent chances at spotting the ISS tonight:
20:42 (West) to 20:48 (East)
22:17 (West) to 22:20 (South-East)
As for the rest of the week:
28th 21:07 (West) to 21:12 (East)
28th 22:42 (West) to 22:44 (South West)
29th 21:31 (West) to 21:36 (South East)
30th 21:56 (West) to 21:59 (South)
1st 20:44 (West) to 20:50 (East)
1st 22:21 (West) to 22:22 (South)
2nd 21:10 (West) to 21:14 (South West)
When you see it just think, it's travelling at at an altitude of 210 miles at 17,500 mph. Roughly.

Two excellent passes tonight. There is a possibility that we might, just, see the Space Shuttle Endeavour too en route to the ISS if it launches on the 29th April. I'll post the times too if anyone is interested.
This will be the penultimate shuttle flight so if you miss it, you probably never have another chance.

Having never seen it before, and managing to completely miss the earlier visit this evening, despite actually being out in the garden looking, I was very impressed on the second visit. As someone said it was amazing to think it had been right round the whole world between 20.42 and 22.17!!
Thanks again Phil for the tip off and for making me a star in one of your photos!
