16:3479648Am i right in thinking that drinking in public in pencester is banned as im sick of going to catch buses to find unsavory persons sitting in these stops drinking, swearing, with dogs and generally intimidating people. Where is the police or pcso? this is a very busy area of dover i dread to think what the tourists think.

16:5079655i think brian is right, the bus stop is outside pencester gardens so they can carry on.
the favourite places at the moment seem to be just outside the museum entrance and the market square benches.
great image for our visitors.

19:0379673Surely Pencester is part of the Town Centre Alcohol Control Zone?
If it is then a Police Officer can "order" people to stop drinking and confiscate their booze.

19:1879679i didn't think we had a town centre alcohol control zone, folkestone does.
i may be wrong but certain areas like parks and subways have signs, not a general one though.

19:3279686actually bob, our town centre bloke does a decent job, only one of him though.
the day before yesterday he stopped two youths for riding their bicycles on the pavement, in the back ground was another cyclist trying to break the landspeed record going against the one way system.
when he finished admonishing the youths they walked their bikes until out of his vision, then raised a cheery finger each and raced each other down the pedestrian filled pavement of pencester road.

19:5779688I thought those alcohol control zones only require you to stop drinking if asked to by a police officer, so a family having a quiet picnic with a nice chilled glass of plonk have no problem. I might be wrong, the nearest one to me is in leafy Temple Ewell and I'm always driving through too fast to read it

20:1579695What a shame the PC did not/could not confiscate their bikes even if only for a few hours or days.

20:1779697trouble is what does he do with them?
he would have had to wheel them back to ladywell, hardly a dignified stance, then spent a few hours completing the paperwork, meanwhile there could be students rioting all over the town centre.

20:2379700I know it isn't practical, it was just a nice thought, the toe-rags being suitably punished for once.

20:3279703I believe that a walking stick/umbrella through the spokes often leads to cyclists being propelled over their handlebars and 99% of time can be made to look like an accident.
Just trying to be helpful.

Can be very effective, saw a city gent do that to a cyclist in London once. Cyclist was trying to force his way through the crowd crossing at a junction.
