Richard has to be congratulated for his enthusiasm to visitors with his boat and bus tours. As has already been said the cabin is a mechanism for these with the added ability to hand out tourist leaflets etc.

I personally feel it is the wrong location next to the swimmers sculptors and the recent Seachange funding to improve the promanade was to give a clean open seafront.

DHB have agreed (it is their land), however, a landowner agreement is not, I would think, give automatic permission to a building/cabin such as this in a prime location.

It is a "Portakabin" type building and I have just looked at the Portakabin website and amongst frequently asked questions are "Do I need Planning Permission" answer "Yes- unless the building is to be sited for less than 28 Days"

Sheli/Jan I hope this gives you some idea how to take forward.

As a temporary building to serve the object of Richards business and tourism to the town a possible less obtrusive location would be the seaside area past the pedestrian underpass which has run down buildings.. In this location as and when regeneration occurs a purpose build facility could be considered.

Both DDC and DTC are spending a great deal of money on the new VIC at the Museum site (far better for tourists) which may in fact reduce the requirement of the facility Richard has placed on the seafront.
