  My grandmother was a great soup maker, as many of our parents were, to use up leftover vegetables, with added stock, lentils, etc. but when she was at school she said the only thing she would not do, which their cookery teacher did, was to put left over jam tarts in the soup! But it's all food, after all, and many starving people would be very glad of it. We are fortunate we don't have to go this far.
