    I have always said the Conservatives will get us out of the EU.

    The important point that Alexander seems to have missed is that this is part of the strong-arm tactics to renegotiate our relationship with the EU and to repatriate powers.

    The referendum will be after such negotiations and via this vote the public will either accept the new arrangements or get us out all together.

    This does mark the end of Britain being part of the 'ever closer Union'.

    Cameron must now get on and win an outright victory in 2015 because another coalition with the LimpDems will block this vote and renegotiation.
