This afternoon I bought some runner beans from M & S in town and when I went to microwave them I noticed that they were of Kenyan origin. I can understand it in midwinter but surely this is the time of year that they are picked here?

Hmm, that is odd. I thought Plan A was to make their UK operations carbon-neutral. Have to say I don't understand profit margins; you'd have thought that higher wages here would still be cheaper than airfreight (although, come to think of it, I've seen Kenyan roses too). If you don't mind me asking, how much for how much money?

I would have expected better from m & S though it is the end of our runner season, with roses the vast majority of European roses are brought over from Kenya.

No idea of size they market individual packs as one of the daily five, £.1 for one £.1. 50 for two all sliced and washed ready for use. I have noticed also when buying packs of mixed fruit from supermarkets a lot of that is from abroad when in season here.

I always look for locally grown apples in the supermarket and am amazed to see where most of them are imported from, very few from Kent, always like to support local industry..
