No matter how glum it's been 2011 was quite an eventful year. We had the Arab Spring - the most significant event of which was the overthrow and death of Gadaffi. We had a royal wedding which cheered everyone up for a day or two. Then there were the riots, Fukushima, the death of Bin Laden, the international money crisis, the can of wriggling worms that still is the News of the World affair .......... lots really - and most of it pretty awful.
Usually, to find a picture of these events, all we have to do is type a keyword or two into our search engine and there we have it - or at least what the media want you to have!
For me there is one memorable image (apart from Pippa Middleton at the wedding - nearly eclipsing her sister Kate! ). As there's not a lot left we can really call British, I find this from the anti-cuts strike a lovely illustration of something we still have .... our peculiar sense of humour used to deliver a clear message, but typified by clever use of British understatement. A subtitle could be "The Mouse that Roared".
Amazing to think that all it took to convey such a powerful message was a flattened-out carboard box, a lick of paint and a stick!
Can anyone else come up with an image that characterised 2011 for them?
