some very interesting points raised, certainly more "no fishing signs" are needed where it is prohibited.
i think darren is incorrect in his assertion that there are more fish in the dour than in the past.
long term residents tell me differently.
it is basically theft when fish are caught without a licence, as stated above the fees paid go towards the upkeep of the river.
eels are a different issue as they are not as visible as the trout so people are not aware of their demise.
yes some do go to restaurants, the cafe opposite the bus station, when under previous management, sent across a young bloke to catch trout from the bridge in broad daylight.
