If you have to close down this is the way to do it.
- 24 January 2011 08:0890051None of us want to see shops close down but when they have to, some do it better than others.
The picture above sadly shows the newly empty shop in Castle St. The team behind Smarts gave it a brave go and it was a very pleasant shop. They even advertised with us on here on Doverforum in an effort to make a go of it. Sadly it didnt work out and they closed very recently.
But look how clean, respectable and presentable they left the shop. Still fully aware of the community they tried to serve.
On the other hand look at the awful mess below that Party Planners left us. They closed with no care for their community leaving a frighful mess and eyesore. This eyesore is in our most prominent street just a short 50 metres from Marks and Spencer. This shop has now been like this for several years in our main thoroughfare and is obviously and a total disgrace.

- 24 January 2011 18:5690115One difference Paul is that the owner of Smart Stationary has another business in Dover and wants to keep his name respectable; the owner of the old Party Planners shop doesn't operate another business in Dover, or care about Dover - having said that, he did have Let's Party after Party Planners closed.
The owners of the Party Planners building should be written to, to ask him to do it up; he was working on the flats above, but that's now stopped.

- 25 January 2011 13:4990199Peter at Smarts should be congratulated on leaving the premises in such good order, I find it infuriating that the previous tenant of Party Planners was allowed to leave the shop in the terrible state highlighted by PaulB and of course there are many more that leave eyesores behind them.
Whenever we have moved from one office to another you have to leave the premises in such a state so that the next tenant can start work immediately or you will lose your deposit and will be charged for any work or decorating that needs to be done to bring it up to spec.
Why is this allowed to happen, especially at prime sites such as Party Planners etc
