Iceland to supply energy to Britain

  Britain's future energy supply is of concern to the Government, the fact being that fossil energy is either running out, or the world's population is ever increasing, pushing up the demand. The prices for fossil fuel are becoming prohibitive.
  
  Nuclear power plants are too expensive to build and too dangerous to contemplate as a viable source of future energy.
  
  But Sky News reports:
  "Icelandic volcanoes could soon power British homes if the Government secures a dramatic new energy deal."
  
  The Energy minister Charles Hendry is set to visit Iceland next month to reach an agreement with Iceland's government for the supply of energy to Britain. It would stem mainly from Iceland's volcanoes and could supply one third of Britain's electricity.
  
  The project would involve over 900 miles of copper cables, each mile of cable containing over 1,000 tonnes of copper.

  No, Howard, no wind-turbines.
  
  It has to do with conveying energy from volcanoes and gysers.
  The Government realised that nuclear power is a non-starter for investment in future energy.
  As wind-turbines are at a low standard of productivity, and oil may well be running out, or costing £2,50 a litre before long, and gas is scarce too, this system designed to convey energy from Iceland seems to be the only one viable for future investment at the moment.
  
  There is another way, which I know of, but... ah that!

  900,000 tonnes of copper for the cable, gonna take a lot of energy to smelt that!

  Certainly, Ray, but then a lot of energy is used to create any modern form of power plant.
  It seems to me the Government has realised nuclear is off the books.
  Yet from somewhere energy has to come, and Kent's coal was no more than an idea that no-one in Parliament takes seriously.
  
  Coal gasification is an experiment that can't be put into practice. Set a coal field on fire, and the thing could explode and blow up whole towns and cause a massive wave that knocks out more towns along the coast.
