It has to do with conveying energy from volcanoes and gysers.
The Government realised that nuclear power is a non-starter for investment in future energy.
As wind-turbines are at a low standard of productivity, and oil may well be running out, or costing £2,50 a litre before long, and gas is scarce too, this system designed to convey energy from Iceland seems to be the only one viable for future investment at the moment.
There is another way, which I know of, but... ah that!
