  I know it's a bit late now, but the worst thing ever done to the river was to give it Main-River Status.
  Officialdom (all of them) really don't care; they spend hundreds and thousands of pounds on river-walks and cycle routes so people can see what a disgrace it is: get a river warden first and he will sort out the river.
  
  I still can't believe with all the millions being spent of regeneration, that no one is taking notice of the river.
