I dont know if any of you watched the movie premier last night on ITV. We get so few new and decent things on TV nowadays that a premier of anything has to grab attention.

I was a lover of sci-fi in the movies once upon a time, until they went either stupefyingly gory or numblingly sweet. So last nights offering with Wilf Smith was bound to be interesting....would it be good, would it be sweet, would it be too boringly gory.

I dont know Wilf Smith very well but considering he has something of a lightweight reputation he did a very good job on this one and showed some depth. There were some very good moments indeed. The film reminded me of a classic one from the seventies...with that rangey heroic figure Charlton Heston.

Yes indeed Charlton Heston, when his chariot racing days were behind him, did a trio of minor classics that have stood the test of time. One was the very familiar Planet of the Apes, the next was Soylent Green, and the third one in the trilogy was The Omega Man. I havent looked anything up on this as yet, but this one - I am Legend - was clearly a reworking of The Omega Man. The story is of the last man on earth who isnt infected by a deadly virus.

Here is a shot from the film....

but I often ask myself, How do they do it?? How do the do those scenes with the endless empty streets of New York. They cant surely send all the bankers and insurance brokers home for the day?! Bewildering... but brilliant to see.

    And another pic....

I enjoyed this one as it was reminiscent of one of my old favourites as mentioned above, so if its on again it most certainly is worth a look for anyone who might have missed it.
