Dover Branch is closed.
I went to pay a cheque in and someone said that they had 'security issues'....
I wonder what? robbery or attempted robbery maybe. Anyone know?

No Howard - they were closed at 9.45 and still closed at 12.40 so not likely to be that.

Brian tried to close his account and the bank didn't have enough to pay him.

Given that they offer such a poor service anyway, the inconvenience will be just that: an inconvenience, no more or less. And that will be barely noticeable within all the other inconveniences.

brian
last time i saw you outside that bank you were rolling a cigarette.
i thought that using a 50 pound note to wrap the tobacco in was a bit ostentatious.

Bern - name just one bank that gives an excellent service. There really isn't one, they are either bad or less bad and even that can be down to personal perception. The problem is of course we have to access some of their services for a modern lifestyle, best to avoid those services they offer that are 'add-ons' to basic banking.

bit of a modern day problem, everyone thinks they can do every other persons job.
you go into a bank to arrange a standing order or change up some money and they try to sell you a mortgage, life insurance, property insurance, contents insurance and anything else they can think of.
estate agents try to fix you up with a mortgage broker, surveyor etc.
i choose to go to a specialist in each field.

Been with HSBC for years even when it was the Midland. There has never been a problem with them even when we were struggling at the pub plus they were very helpful when my husband died with the problems I had then.
I suppose it all depends what you think your bank should provide instantly as the experts are there by appointment.

Jan, I am glad your experience has been good - mine has been the polar opposite and I do not have a good word to say about HSBC, not a single redeeming word. And it isn't because I have expected too much - my banking needs are intentionally very simple.

Barry, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, so it seems. They have more dollars than all the tea in China
Your savings should be accounted for.
Good job it wasn't Halifax that closed down, where all my savings lie.

My experiences with HSBC have been very good. They are also probably the strongest bank in the world nowadays. But I would put money on them moving their head office back to HK next year.

MMMM when I walked past there about 11.30ish on Tuesday night there was guys coming in and out and loading cable etc into a white van outside (had the logo for some sort of air-conditioning co on the side) - maybe they buggered up the alarms with their works...

my experience jan is the same as bern's
and i do make appointments with my hsbc financial advisor
and he agrees with me on the poor service and directs me direct to him rather than using the branch, that helps me, but the every day member would prefer to go into the branch to get the very basic of services
