Today it appears that with the costs rising to over £50billion a govt committee has stated there is no evidence that there will be any advantages to spending all this taxpayers dosh.

The proponents of HS2 have really shot themselves in the foot by concentrating on the speed aspect - 10 minutes off the time to point A, 20 saved to point B etc.
This is really about capacity, the West Coast Main Line is bursting. Virgin have asked to run 3 or 4 trains a day from London to Blackpool, there is no direct service at present, you have to change once or even twice. The Office of the Rail Regulator have turned it down as the no room.
So it's £50 billion, so what, in terms of defence spending it's peanuts. And it will create jobs.

Like you say Terry, Virgin were turned down as theres no room for the service.
And yes its £50billion, but if its already at capacity, then once again the domestic traveller will lose out.
But if its no new benefit then that's a lot of dosh(our dosh) to waste.
more so when we have such debts
