21:2573572just been announced that dave and george will be buying their own christmas trees this year thus saving the taxpayer 4000 quid.
this begs the question "what size of trees are they used to"?
our susan never saw a tree as an urchin and her christmas stocking contained 2 figs, a segment of a tangerine and an out of date chocolate orange.

07:0173579What this proves Howard is that anything done through public expenditure costs a lot more than the same thing done by private individuals.
No doubt the £4k includes a risk assessment, special training for those erecting the tree, special training for those putting on the decorations, a minimum nu,ber of people, a first aider standing by, someone to hold the ladder, ah perhaps step ladders are not safe enough and beaurocracy dictates some kind of special lifting machine. Such is the madness of the UK beaurocracy and daft rules.

Although yours is a hghlght way over the top and incorrect
never the ;less there is a -need to look at all the red tape.
was pleased to hear Lord Young yesterday say the construction industry won't be affected by new moves, health and safety is important there as many employers did use to cut corners.

07:3673585Not that far over the top!! My experience is that anything, from kettles to staff, are unimaginably more expensive in the public sector - and more cumbersome to acquire - because of clunking, unwieldy and impenetrable methods of procurement. And the challenges involved in procuring are such that opportunities are missed.

17:5773720Hopefully, this year, we will have a celebration of Christmas, rather than any P.C. Winter Festival crap.

21:0173762Howard, an avowed atheist and a fully paid up member of Friends of Kent Churches and Friends of Canterbury Cathedral with a well thumbed waterproof copy of the KJV on my yacht and a copy of England's Thousand Best Churches (Simon Jenkins) in the back of the bosses car for when we are out and about.
Fortunately the C of E is an extremely broad church!
