Roger, regards the Labour Party, only a month or so back, Ed Milliband said Labour would stop unemployment benefits to people who refuse to take a job that is offered to them.
    T. Blair threatened to do exactly the same when PM.

Fact is, one and a half million people sign on, and Labour abandoned its "British jobs for British workers" policy when in Office. Then there is a further one million in search of work who don't sign on.

So it would suffice for (a) Government to find jobs for those who want to work, before spouting out about punishing the others who, allegedly, don't want to work.

In general, any government in the UK deciding to stop benefits to unemployed and to children of economically non-self-sufficient-families would be putting an end to the State, and heralding in either anarchy, or a constitutional crisis. Or both.
