18:4775512no not that, i refer to the public demostrations in le france.
we all know about the various strikes hitting the ferries and transport system in general, saw film today of marseilles covered in rubbish dues to the refuse collection persons not collecting it for a week.
petrol at the pumps is now a luxury in some areas, in other areas, our gallic cousins are setting light to cars(no idea why).
here comes the rub, the government insists that the economy willl not grind to a halt over fuel!!
surely this can only mean troops being brought in to administer a series of jovial kickings to those causing the present problems?
will be interesting then to see how our unions react.

20:3075522If the French Government do give in to pressure re: increasing pension age, wonder how Greece and Spain will react.

20:4775523Howard,
I think it would be grossly unfair for our troops to go to France to kick ass, mind you I would 'nt mind volunteering if they need any help!!

08:1175539howard,it could happen here sooner rather than later, and would this mean that our troops in afgan/iraq be brought home early to cope with the situation.

09:2475550I only went on strike and went out picketing and campaigning, when I knew in my heart and in my head that it was "fight or lose our coalmines" and for me it was the last resort but i also knew it had to be done.
Please don't spout whose fault it was, that's all been done before and nothing to do with this thread.
Having extremists standing behind you on the picket lines, shouting abuse and throwing missiles at the police was very frightening, on many occasions we were sandwiched between angry protesters,(Not Miners) and angry police(Some Military).
Many of you only saw the choice bits that the media were allowed to put in front of you. We lived it and we know how easy it is to completely get out of hand and become violent, within seconds.
Personally, I don't want to ever see or experience that again but it will happen again, sooner rather than later and I think it will be ten times worse.

01:2175842Well having read this thread and its comments, I'd suggest that rather than going on demonstrations here in Britain, people democratically vote UKIP! C'est plus facile!

I did not say I wanted demonstrations, I said expect them.
All the crap about sharing cuts across the board, was always a load of baloney. When some Tory's cheered about cuts that affected only the poorest in our country, that's blatantly showing people the contempt, some have for another human being and I don't think it was confined to a few in parliament either. I bet a few others were more than pleased with those cuts.
I have been the enemy within and felt their wrath. They know they are not in for the long term, so they are hitting hard and fast now while they can. There will be fighting on our streets, there will be casualties. The sad thing is, we all know cuts have to be made but these cuts are a step too far and there will be recriminations.

17:4575920I think ,regardless of whether the country needed the savings or not, that the Tories cheering the cuts as if they were intended to improve our lives as nothing but shameful and immoral. It reminded me of the film Gladiator where the spectators were braying for blood to be slilt. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

18:0575924valid point raised by marek, it has been said in some quarters that the cuts are ideologically driven and that if the deficit was a lot smaller the cuts would atill be the same.
