Apart from the topic on the KHF up to now I have found no other reference relating to this proposal, interesting as it may be. Whether or not agreement could be reached with the owners of the site and the managers, Kent Wildlife Trust, is all a matter of speculation.
Pegwell is a huge site and I'm sure the museum could be accomodated there if all the objections and inevitable adminisrative hurdles were overcome (as this is modern Britain no doubt there would be a multitude of office clerks of all job titles squealing with delight at the prospect of obstructing every stage of the process for as long as they possibly could).
Such a move would also require the costly building of large hangers to hold the collection of over 60 craft as the existing buildings are not only insufficient, they are from all accounts in a very dire state of repair.
Lastly, and possibly the most financially crippling of all. Bearing in mind, as most of the collection are "non-runners", they would have to be transported from Lee-on-Solent to Pegwell. How many, if any, could be moved by road?. This leaves only one alternative - think of the cost!
As I understand it these craft are regarded as irrelaceable and consequently insurance is a major problem. This is an area I know little about but I would suspect the cost of underwriting such a move would induce nightmares !.
