I see from the Kent History Forum that the Hovercraft Museum at Gosport may move to Pegwell Bay. If so then this could be another attraction for East Kent although as one contributor put it "The locals would be against it".
Couldn't possibly come to Dover could it Richard?

would be a great draw, cannot see any reason to oppose it, hovercrafts don't normally escape and do night flights.

There is a company called "Flying Fish" who operate mini hovercraft over in Sandwich, near to Pfizers; they were banned from operating, I think, more than 12 times a year because they were deemed to be noisy and a distraction to drivers. Pegwell Bay isn't far away from there
I would support most strongly a move to bring this to Dover - its natural home.

The old Pegwell site is in a terrible condition and very bleak in the winter, would take quite a investment to open it there I would have thought. Where could it be sited in Dover? the Hoverport is earmarked for T2 and I can't think of anywhere else near the sea that would be suitable.

This has always been an ideas should the site at HMS Daedelus be made unavailable. The current location has always been a bit iffy as the site is up for major development which is currently being consulted in.
Trouble is tha the at N4 are in very bad condition and I cannot see them being about to survive trying to get over the hump onto the slipway let alone floating all the way back to Kent

Been nice knowing you :)

Apart from the topic on the KHF up to now I have found no other reference relating to this proposal, interesting as it may be. Whether or not agreement could be reached with the owners of the site and the managers, Kent Wildlife Trust, is all a matter of speculation.
Pegwell is a huge site and I'm sure the museum could be accomodated there if all the objections and inevitable adminisrative hurdles were overcome (as this is modern Britain no doubt there would be a multitude of office clerks of all job titles squealing with delight at the prospect of obstructing every stage of the process for as long as they possibly could).
Such a move would also require the costly building of large hangers to hold the collection of over 60 craft as the existing buildings are not only insufficient, they are from all accounts in a very dire state of repair.
Lastly, and possibly the most financially crippling of all. Bearing in mind, as most of the collection are "non-runners", they would have to be transported from Lee-on-Solent to Pegwell. How many, if any, could be moved by road?. This leaves only one alternative - think of the cost!
As I understand it these craft are regarded as irrelaceable and consequently insurance is a major problem. This is an area I know little about but I would suspect the cost of underwriting such a move would induce nightmares !.
