And while I'm on here - no 2 Saxon street has been sold at auction. We were told it was being sold as one house of two maisonettes. We hoped someone would turn it back to one house. No! Sold to two different buyers as two maisonettes. Great! Now got two landlords to deal with instead of one. I'll just wait till they try and turn them into four flats!!!! Grumpy? Me? Too bloody right!!!!
I think we are all guinea pigs in the middle of an experiment for which they have forgotten to set up a control group!

the way of things unforunately jen, hope you are as lucky as me, landlords either side of me are known and both are very responsible people who are selective of their tenants.

A pity it didn't get bought by one person Jen I agree; with the high-speed train just round the corner from you, it could (should) have been someone in London relocating to Dover.
They can't be big enough to split up again can they ?
Pleased to hear your neighbour's landlords are responsible Howard.

That's right, Roger, one of those unemployed people in London whose housing benefit is too expensive for the State to pay...

And that is sadly, what happens.
Unscrupulous London people buy up cheap property (usually large family homes) down here, which is much cheaper than London and then either turn them into tiny boxes for homeless people or nere-do-wells and get the rent paid by the State direct to them, so it's easy, assured money, or they get a charity like Porchlight or Stonhams to run them after receiving funding from KCC.

When the house as sold originally about 6 years ago it was a complete family house. The buyer then removed the bathroom and applied for permission to turn it into 4 flats. My dad noticed this in the planning application and asked how many bedrooms we had - 3. Dad was then able to put in a letter contesting it. So the buyer turned it into 2 maisonettes. We've had people of every walk of life there. Most of them were quite pleasant but we have also had some disruptive peple too. But at least we knew the landlord!!!!!
I dread to think what could happen but have calmed down a bit since my first post and have fingers crossed for a good outcome. We need to talk to the owner of the top flat as the guttering at the back is knackered and it's starting to impact on our wall. And we need to talk to the owner of the bottom flat about the rat situation - they seem to be living in their shed. Happy days!!!
