Yes - it was also found that his intention was only to protect his privacy and not to defraud expenses. They also said he could have claimed more expenses legally than if he had not done the cover-up. Thanks to the latter points his chances of returning to government have increased.

why would anyone who wants to reach high office expect to have his or her privacy respected?
too many people (not only politicians) use the media for their own benefit then get upset when they are put under the microscope.

keith
those who court the media for the free publicity have to expect to pay a price.
many years ago billy connolly attacked a photographer who he considered was invading his privacy.
the incident happened in stringfellows!!

Yes Howard is right there Keef. Too many people are only too glad of media help when they are trying to climb up the greasy pole. Then when they get up that pole they take a position of disdain and horror should anyone take their picture...unless they have a book launch, a movie to plug, or even heavens a manifesto to inflict on the masses...then the media become all important.

I agree with Howard and Paul, those who actively seek out publicity have to take the rough with the smooth.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

why in this day and age would he feel the need to hide his relationship?

1. Because if he revealed it, his embezzlement would become obvious.
Or 2. He is unsure of his own self
Or 3. His parents don't know he is gay.

embezzlement is favourite with me, he could have always not made any claim if he were that worried.
he would not have kept his sexuality for long anyway, he would know that.

As Ross says, there is no reason nowadays for anyone to deny their sexuality. If you are gay and someone feels uncomfortable with that, it is their problem not yours.

PETER;
YES it woul be there problem not to be able to deal with it, but for some gays it isn't that easy and they hide it because of others

Personally I do not judge a person's actions or oeuvres by their sexuality. What I do think is relevant is whether they can be trusted in anything they undertake, so if someone is embezzling I feel they probably cannot be trusted in other areas either, and the same applies if someone is cheating on a partner. Otherwise I could not care less what anyone gets up to and who with. (Very ungrammatical but hey, who cares?)

he will get away with it though, he seems to be leaning towards joining the blues, dave wants him in his team so that will ensure that after a quiet period he will be whisked back and onto the front bench.
